Head Cleric of Seonhwa, an old woman who holds compassion and mercy as the highest goal of the city and seeks a way to cure the Maggi-corrupted rather than destroy them.

Who She Is

Eun-Ae is a wizened old woman, which is rare in the modern day. She believes compassion and mercy are the ultimate goal of Seonhwa, the Virtuous Harmony. To her, every creature corrupted by Maggi is suffering, and her aim is to find a way to “cure” them rather than treat them as evil to be put down.

When recruits speak with her, her warm, soothing voice brings most to a peaceful mindset. She occasionally even breaks through the hardened walls of First Shield Beom-Seok, the Head Guardian, whose position on the corrupted is far harsher. Her chambers keep lit incense and are meant to be welcoming to anyone who needs her guidance.

History

As a young woman, Eun-Ae lived through the Fracturing (Cheonha Bunhae), the catastrophe in which the broken Celestial Pillars collapsed the Great Balance and let Maggi seep into the world. From the beginning she knew her role was to heal.

Her Place in Seonhwa

Eun-Ae sits on the Council of Seonhwa as the leader of the Cleric path, patrons of Jeonghwa, purification. The council holds the five paths together, each leader carrying their own motive and conflicting view of how to face the corruption. Eun-Ae’s compassion-first stance stands against the excise-and-remove views held by figures like Master Tracker Yoo-ri, and softer than Beom-Seok’s call to exile or execute the exposed.

Her approach draws others toward her. The Songhondan, half-Guardian in their training, sit closer to Eun-Ae’s compassion than to Beom-Seok’s discipline. She also helped shape the next generation of spirit-workers: Mediator Yun-Seo studied under both Eun-Ae and Grand Scholar Seul-Ki for three years, Eun-Ae teaching her to approach the dead with compassion while Seul-Ki pressed for academic rigor. Eun-Ae supports Yun-Seo and the sanctioned Danja practice fully.

The Gloth Cleansing Ritual

Eun-Ae designs the ritual at the heart of the Gloth Arc, the Ssitgim-gut cleansing rite. After players first defeat Gloth (formerly Han-Gyeol) and find they cannot stop him reforming from the Maggi, they realize they must cleanse the corrupted relic fragment. They then begin a quest chain to gather the items needed for Eun-Ae’s ritual, built to purify the fragment and, if it can be done, Gloth himself. Once the components are assembled, the players confront Gloth a final time, defeat him, and perform the ritual. Han-Gyeol is restored and afterward can be found recording everything he learned to help Seonhwa.

The ritual fits her conviction directly. Where others would end Gloth, Eun-Ae’s method is built on the belief that the corrupted are suffering and can be saved.
