Head of the Wizard path in Seonhwa, a brilliant and cold researcher who studies Maggi above all else and wants the Danja’s spirit archive.
Character
Seul-Ki is the Head Wizard, leading the path of Yeonghwa (Spirit Flame), the spirit of knowledge and elemental Giun. She did not climb to her position through ambition or reputation. She focused on her work so completely that the people around her began asking for her help with their own experiments, and the role followed from that.
She comes across as cold or distracted. This is the side effect of a one-track mind: when she is occupied with a special project, little else reaches her. She has been seen ignoring grievous wounds on recruits so she could examine the effects of Maggi on them. She forgets recruit names constantly and labels people with whatever is convenient to remember.
She has long unruly hair and robes that are permanently singed. She is not often seen around the Manor, and when she does appear it becomes an event.
Lecturer Ji-Hoon is permanently assigned to teaching the young Wizards because Seul-Ki does not want to deal with the distraction of it.
Beliefs
Seul-Ki believes she can help the world through the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. The moral implications of her work are something she regularly sets aside. Where the council frames Maggi-corrupted creatures through protection (Beom-Seok), compassion (Eun-Ae), or mercy (Yoo-ri), Seul-Ki frames them as a subject to be understood.
The Danja archive
Seul-Ki wants the full records of the Danja (Jeopsindanja). Every Gut the Danja perform is documented: location, the spirit, what its Han was, how it was resolved, and anything the spirit shared about ruins, Maggi movement, and old structures. Mediator Yun-Seo gives Seul-Ki summaries but refuses to hand over the rest, because the records hold personal details about the dead and their families that Yun-Seo considers private. They go back and forth on it. Neither has given ground.
Relationships
Yun-Seo studied under Seul-Ki for part of three years while also studying under High Cleric Eun-Ae. Where Eun-Ae wanted Yun-Seo to approach spirits with compassion, Seul-Ki wanted her to document everything with academic rigor. Yun-Seo did both, and developed the guidelines the Suhodan now uses for sanctioned Danja work. Seul-Ki considers Yun-Seo a competent researcher.
