The Cleric who leads the Songhondan today and the current holder of the title First Sender. She carries an order founded on the Guardian’s refusal to leave anyone, and she carries it as a healer, which is not a thing the Song grant lightly to anyone less brave than she is.

Name

Hae-Won. The name means the releasing of a grievance, the loosening of a grief held too long. For the one who leads an order whose work is to free the anguished dead, it is either a fitting accident or a thing her parents could not have known they were naming her for.

A Cleric leading a Guardian’s order

The Song were built by a Guardian, and the Guardian half of the path has never fully made peace with being led by a healer. Hae-Won did not win them with argument. She wins them again on every recovery by being the first into the ground no one wants to enter and the last to leave it. A Cleric is meant to stand back and mend. Hae-Won stands at the head of the Sending and goes out for the bodies herself, and an order that measures worth by the willingness to die for the already-dead has run out of ways to doubt her.

Character

Somber, like all the Song, and dedicated past the point most people could bear. She does not perform grief and she does not perform strength. She is quiet, exact in the rite, and unhesitating in the field, and the only sign of what the work costs her is that she has stopped expecting to grow old. She knows the promise will most likely be the end of her, the way it was the end of the founder, and she leads as though that is simply the shape of the work, because to the Song it is.

What she holds together

The order’s outward face is flawless, and Hae-Won is the one who keeps it so while knowing better. She carries the tally of the bodies the Song did not reach, and she keeps an eye on the few who carry it worst. Holding the Song steady is its own kind of recovery, the one that never finishes, and it is hers.
