am-Gi (The Weeping Hermit)
A Cheonmugwan survivor who fled into the deep wild to live alone, where his own corrupting presence ruins everything he tries to grow.
Who He Is
Nam-Gi is one of the survivors of the Cheonmugwan (천무관), the Celestial Martial Court whose failed ritual caused the Fracturing. Like the others who lived through it, he was at the center of the catastrophe and was washed over by Maggi (막기) at its purest form. He suffers the agony of immortality. His body is deeply disfigured, with only small vestiges of his prior self visible, and his skin crawls with the black lines of Maggi corruption that mark all of his kind. Many Cheonmugwan survivors are missing senses, their eyes ruined, ears burned over, or mouths sealed shut. Which of these afflictions Nam-Gi carries is unspecified.
His Life in the Wild
He lives in the deepest, most dangerous part of the wild, surrounded by intense wards. He tries to plant a garden and live a quiet life, but his very presence corrupts the soil and turns the animals around him into monsters. He cannot escape what he is.
He feels shame for his actions, but lacks the will to try to fix what the Cheonmugwan broke. So he seeks absolute isolation instead.
Where He Stands Among the Survivors
Unlike the two organized factions of Cheonmugwan survivors, Nam-Gi belongs to neither. He does not share the Eclipse Court’s (Sig Beob-won) belief that Maggi is the next evolution of Giun and the ritual only the first step. Nor does he take up the Ashen Archivists’ (Jae-Giloggwan) work of preservation and repentance. His response to the same guilt is withdrawal, not doctrine.
