he Ashen Archivists (Jae-Giloggwan)
Repentant Cheonmugwan survivors who preserve knowledge for humanity and seek to end their own immortality, operating through intermediaries because they know they are hated.
Who They Are
The Jae-Giloggwan (재길록관), the Ashen Archivists, are the few survivors of the Cheonmugwan who recognized the hubris of what they did. Like all who lived through the Fracturing at its center, they were washed over by Maggi in its purest form. They suffer the agony of immortality, their bodies deeply disfigured with only small vestiges of their prior selves visible. Many are missing senses (eyes ruined, ears burned over, mouths sealed shut), and their skin crawls with black lines of Maggi corruption.
Where the Eclipse Court (Sig Beob-won) believes the original ritual was only the first step and embraces what Maggi made them, the Archivists feel regret. They seek repentance through preserving and growing what they know, to one day hand it to the survivors of humanity. They often look for ways to end their own unending lives.
How They Operate
They work through intermediaries. Though the Archivists feel regret, they know they are hated, so they do not approach directly. Agents move on their behalf. The Hwarang (Hwa) subpath of the Suhodan counts dealing with the occasional Ashen Archivists agent moving through the region among its practical duties.
Elder So-Hwa, the Blind Archivist
During the Fracturing, So-Hwa threw herself over the archives to protect the historical texts. She absorbed a horrific amount of Maggi, which blinded her and fused the ancient scrolls to her flesh. She operates solely through intermediaries.
