nstructor Jin-Woo (The Jadeheart)

The general tutor of the Suhodan at Seonhwa (선화), a man known for wisdom and care who never chose a path of his own.

Character

Jin-Woo never strove to find a path. Where the other tutors and leaders aligned to one of the five spirits and an ideology to follow, Jin-Woo did not. He is renowned for his wisdom and care. He remembers every recruit’s name and face, and often goes out of his way to greet them.

When a recruit meets Jin-Woo for the first time, they feel a strange sense of nostalgia. The source does not explain why, and it is left unexplained here.

Role in the recruit’s first quest

Jin-Woo gives new recruits their final lesson, a brief account of the world and what they have trained for, before sending them to take down Bae-Gumeong (배구멍) in the rat area of the Crypts.

When a recruit returns after killing Bae-Gumeong, they bring back a piece of a relic. Jin-Woo recognizes it as part of a relic once held by a man named Han-Gyeol (한결). When the recruit asks who that is, Jin-Woo says it is best that he doesn’t explain, and tells them the leader of the path they choose will tell them more. (Han-Gyeol is the man who became the boss Gloth.)

Open thread

Two details about Jin-Woo have no explanation in the sources, and both are open questions to develop later. Why does every recruit feel a strange sense of nostalgia on first meeting him? And why is he the one tutor who never chose a path when every other tutor and leader aligned to one of the five spirits? Whether the two are connected is unknown. No explanation is recorded, so none is asserted here.
